Telemetry (Cardiac)
I began HCA Healthcare’s StaRN ProgramOn February 29, 2019, at Trident Medical Center, Charleston, SC on the Telemetry Unit (Cardiac). StaRN (Special Training Apprenticeship for Registered Nurses) provides new graduate nurses the opportunity to obtain acute care nursing experience through an intensive 12-17 week (phase I) paid internship that includes both clinical and precepting learning experiences.
Completing the StaRN Program starts the beginning of HCA Healthcare's Nurse Residency Program(phase II). I began this phase on May 26, 2019. HCA Healthcare’s Nurse Residency Program involves attending various seminars and meetings all while working as an independent nurse and completing an evidence-based project. It was a smooth transition from nursing school to life as a new graduate nurse. I completed both HCA Healthcare’s StaRN Program & Nurse Residency Program a few weeks early on February 18, 2020.
No matter the company or healthcare facility, I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND COMPLETING A YEAR LONG NURSE RESIDENCY PROGRAM IF YOU ARE A NEW GRADUATE NURSE!
HCA Healthcare StaRN Program
The StaRN program allows new graduates to obtain specific experience through its intensive residency program and then transition to staff nurse roles within .

I began orienting at MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital on April 13, 2020.
As an acute care pediatric nurse, I cared for medical and surgical patients ranging from birth to 18 years of age. Typical patients, I cared for had diagnoses that included trauma/fractures, idiopathic scoliosis, seizures, and other neurological disorders and developmental delays, suicide ideation, asthma, diabetes, failure to thrive, sickle cell disease, chron’s disease, ulcerative colitis, cystic fibrosis, nephrotic syndrome, neurologic bladder, and other kidney diseases, ovarian cysts, and COVID-19,
I cared for a host of pre-op and post-op patients that underwent spinal fusions, Malone and Mitroffanoff placements, g-tube insertions, and craniotomies.
The COVID-19 pandemic gave me the opportunity to float to units such as the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Pediatric Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU), and Pediatric Oncology a lot more than I normally would. Such an opportunity gave me the hands-on experience to expand, mature, and grow my nursing practice!

“As a nurse, we have the opportunity to heal the heart, mind, soul and body of our patients, their families and ourselves. They may not remember your name but they will never forget the way you made them feel.”
